Cute Kid Pic

This week's edition of the cute kid pic is from this past Sunday, when Daniel was over at his aunt's house for a few hours to play with his cousins and spend time with Gramma Gabby, and leave Mommy to get some cleaning and homework done. And, you know, a general rest. I've been bushed, man.

Aunt Sister gave him a banana, and oh my goodness, he went to town on it. Ate damn near the whole thing, and had a BALL.

Photobucket

Also, he has finally achieved the 'holding-the-bottle-on-my-own' thing. I'm so proud!

Hamthrax

Well it seems like every time I turn around, someone I know is coming down with the swine flu. The Redhead got it, Jay's son got it. I most certainly do NOT want to get it. I'm a pansy and don't handle being sick well.

Thank god for the University. They're giving out free H1N1 vaccines tomorrow on campus between 8 AM and noon. And I'mma get me one. Yay.

Damn you, GBC!

Thanks to you crazy fucks, I'm going to have nightmares for the rest of the week.

Don't get me wrong, the body is pretty, but the face... and just.... who it IS, ya know?

Ewwww.

You guys suck.

ZOMG.

So, after waiting over a month for it, my birth certificate has FINALLY come in. FINALLY.

This means I can get a Missouri state ID and finally bring my Marlin home, which is sitting in layaway, waiting for me. Because I still use my Texas DL for ID, and hadn't gotten one for Missouri since I've lived here, they wouldn't let me bring it home. Understandable.

So, right after I got my financial aid in a little over a month ago, I ordered a copy of my birth certificate, so I could get my Missouri state ID and yada yada yada. You get the idea.

It FINALLY came in. I'm very happy about this. There's just one teensy little drawback.

I'm flat fucking broke. I have money set aside for my trip to Blogorado, but if I tap into that money, I'll have enough money for my hotel room, gas money for FarmGirl, since she's driving me to and from the airport, and nothing else.

Getting a Missouri DL costs $25, and the remaining balance on the rifle in the shop is $34 and some change. I'm looking at about $60, and I have no idea how to come up with it.

I'm going to throw up a donate button here on the blog, and if any of you feel nice enough, I would greatly appreciate it.

Otherwise, I'm really looking for some ideas how to come up with the money. Anybody? Suggestions?

Song O' Teh Week

To celebrate the upcoming holiday that we all know and love, Halloween, today's Song O' Teh Week is from a well-known and well-loved (in most circles, anyway) Halloween/Christmas movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas.

This Is Halloween
[SHADOW]
Boys and girls of every age
Wouldn't you like to see something strange?

[SIAMESE SHADOW]
Come with us and you will see
This, our town of Halloween

[PUMPKIN PATCH CHORUS]
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night

[GHOSTS]
This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright
It's our town, everybody screm
In this town of Halloween

[CREATURE UNDER THE BED]
I am the one hiding under your bed
Teeth ground sharp and eyes glowing red

[MAN UNDER THE STAIRS]
I am the one hiding under yours stairs
Fingers like snakes and spiders in my hair

[CORPSE CHORUS]
This is Halloween, this is Halloween

[VAMPIRES]
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song

[MAYOR]
In this town, don't we love it now?
Everybody's waiting for the next surprise

[CORPSE CHORUS]
Round that corner, man hiding in the trash cam
Something's waiting no to pounce, and how you'll...

[HARLEQUIN DEMON, WEREWOLF & MELTING MAN]
Scream! This is Halloween
Red 'n' black, slimy green

[WEREWOLF]
Aren't you scared?

[WITCHES]
Well, that's just fine
Say it once, say it twice
Take a chance and roll the dice
Ride with the moon in the dead of night

[HANGING TREE]
Everybody scream, everbody scream

[HANGED MEN]
In our town of Halloween!

[CLOWN]
I am the clown with the tear-away face
Here in a flash and gone without a trace

[SECOND GHOUL]
I am the "who" when you call, "Who's there?"
I am the wind blowing through your hair

[OOGIE BOOGIE SHADOW]
I am the shadow on the moon at night
Filling your dreams to the brim with fright

[CORPSE CHORUS]
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
Halloween! Halloween!

[CHILD CORPSE TRIO]
Tender lumplings everywhere
Life's no fun without a good scare

[PARENT CORPSES]
That's our job, but we're not mean
In our town of Halloween

[CORPSE CHORUS]
In this town

[MAYOR]
Don't we love it now?

[CORPSE CHORUS]
Skeleton Jack might catch you in the back
And scream like a banshee
Make you jump out of your skin
This is Halloween, everyone scream
Wont' ya please make way for a very special guy

Our man jack is King of the Pumpkin patch
Everyone hail to the Pumpkin King

[EVERYONE]
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!

[CORPSE CHILD TRIO]
In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song

[EVERYONE]
La la-la la, Halloween! Halloween!

Fall Colors

It's that time of year again, folks. The weather is cooling off, the leaves are changing colors and drifting to the ground. Cold soda is being exchanged for hot cocoa and steaming coffee, while ball caps and tank tops are being turned in for beanies and puffy sweaters.

It's the time where young and old folks alike are pairing off to snuggle down and watch a movie under a blanket and generally enjoy time together, and it's only going to improve as the weather gets colder. Most couples use the fall and winter as an excuse to be extra-affectionate. After all, everybody wants some body heat to keep them warm, right? ;)

Since I now only have one class on Friday, and it's early in the morning, I think I will start devoting a little bit of time every week to taking pictures around town. Today, I got some really good pics. As I mentioned above, the leaves are changing colors, and the trees and bushes around campus are absolutely gorgeous. I'm going to email these to my family back in Texas, too: they don't get this pretty down in Houston!

Some of the pictures are a little dark, I will grant you that. It was cloudy and overcast today, so not the best of conditions for taking pictures. And I don't have one of those big fancy cameras that cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I just have a simple little point-and-shoot. It gets the job done, though. I'm nowhere near being a professional, and it's not even a serious hobby of mine. I just see things that I think would make a good picture, and I take it.

Photobucket

This is our flagpole in the middle of campus. Around the base, as you can see in the bottom of the picture, are several plaques. They spell out the ten articles of our Bill of Rights. I did take individual pictures of each of the plaques, but I'm not going to put them up now. If you think I should, drop me a comment and I'll stick them up in the next post.

Photobucket

This is our admin building, behind the flag pole. With the colors of the leaves in the big old trees and the general design of the building, it looked too regal to pass up taking a picture of. It turned out really well, actually. I think I might do a little bit of photoshopping, put in a caption with the name of the university I am attending, and frame it.

Photobucket

This is the front of our library, in all its glory. Next to the Union, which is a general student hang out with the fast food court, this building sees more traffic than any other on campus. Three floors of computers, fiction, references, government documents, and even a bagle shop. Always quiet, with big leather chairs to relax in next to the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the campus. I love the library.

Photobucket

This is the Dockery building, the first building I see every morning when I get to the campus, at the north end. With trees coming up to those big spikes, I always imagine it's a regal castle, just waiting for royalty to arrive. I don't know what's in there, I've never set foot in it, myself.

Photobucket

These trees are near the gymnasium that is under construction, as well as the empty area behind it where they are building a new rec center. It's a perfect illustration of the colors I mentioned. Beautiful.

Photobucket

Next to the building with the 'academic enrichment' classes, there is a stand of trees lining the sidewalk with low-hanging branches. I usually walk under them, with just a couple inches of clearance, but today was the first time they seemed to be such a bright, brilliant color.

And now, one for my gunbloggers....

PhotobucketPhotobucket

The eeeeeeeevil pistol and rifle range on campus, down in the basement under the academic enrichment building. The sign is small and in a corner out of the way where nobody notices it, and if you're not looking, you'll completely miss the stairs down into the basement.

Matter of fact, today, my one class I had was actually in that building, and at about 9:30 this morning, we started hearing guns go off. Everybody freaked out, teacher included, wondering who the hell was shooting up campus... but the sound was too muffled. "They're in the range downstairs. They're not supposed to do that during class hours! It's only open at night!" Never found out what was going on, though.

So, yes. That's my campus. I ended up having a really good day, too.

Tune in next time. Same Snarky time, same Snarky channel.

Emergency....

... Edition of the Cute Kid Pic of the week!

I took these yesterday and they were just too adorable NOT to share with you lovely people of the Intertubes.

Photobucket

This was yesterday morning, after I had already posted the Cute Kid Pic. I fed him and put him in his bouncy seat, let him play with the dangly rattle things there, while I fiddled away on the laptop. Killing time before class, you know?

I look up five minutes later, and he is OUT COLD. So cute.

Also, after coming home because power was out across campus all day, we played and watched movies together and fun was had by all.

Til Mommy ran out of cereal. So we improvised. We introduced pears!

And he LOVED IT.

Photobucket

And once again, fun was had by all. He conked right out and took a two and a half hour nap, and Mommy did the exact same thing.

I wuvs my little man.

W00t!

So, all my classes are cancelled today. Well, my morning one is.

Apparently, somebody cross-wired one of the transformers at the power sub-station next to the library on campus. Said cross-wiring caused a fire and knocked out the sub-station.

Half the power in town (everything on campus) is out. Some of the buildings are running on the emergency back up generators, and others are completely dark.

No daycare. No classes until this afternoon... Which I can't go to anyway, because the daycare is closed...

Fun times, fun times.

Cute Kid Pic

It's that day again, folks. Time for the Cute Kid Pic!

These are some pictures I took of Daniel when I dropped him off at daycare a few days ago. He loves the exersaucer thing they have there. He really likes to stand up and jump around, and the exersaucer has adjustable height so he can do just that.

Very colorful, with a variety of different toys he can grab, spin, and generally amuse himself with.

SO FREAKING CUTE!!!

Halfway Through

Okay. I am a little more than halfway through my first semester in college. It's an interesting experience, it really is.

Except that I'm losing every last cell in my god damned mind.

I've hit that mid-semester slump. I don't want to go to classes, I don't want to be on campus. Half the time I don't even want to get out of bed. I'm losing the energy to dedicate to actually doing the work, and I'm fighting with people all the time, which only makes things worse.

Oh yeah, and did I mention I'm attempting to quit smoking? Oh god.

Life is standing on its head right now, and I'm just trying to survive.

And yeah.... I'm gonna quit making excuses as to why I haven't put a post up in forever, and I'm actually going to try and post more regularly. Promise.

Tune in next time, kids. Same Snark time, same Snark channel.

And the award for "Weird-Shit Crime" goes to...

Wheelchair user, 92, arrested for smuggling coke

MADRID, Spain (CNN) -- A 92-year-old woman with cocaine strapped to her body flew all the way from Brazil to Spain before police arrested her, in a wheelchair, at Madrid's airport.

They found 4.3 kilos, or nearly 9.5 pounds, of cocaine packets strapped to her legs and torso, and also arrested a 44-year-old female companion, who tried to escape on another plane, a Civil Guard spokeswoman told CNN Tuesday.

.... I got nothing. I just.... It's pure genius, it really is, all illegality aside, but...

Nothing to say. Move along now.

America! Fuck yeah!

Now for one for all you patriots... with a sense of humor, of course. From Stephen Lynch (who I was supposed to go see last week but they postponed the concert until December and I'm SO pissed off about that....), I bring you, "America".

Stephen Lynch - America

Alright.
Hey, hey what do you say?
I come from a place called the U.S. of A.
Ho, ho what do you know?
Hop in my car and let's go.

Well this is a song for America,
Home of the red, white, and blue.
Land of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean,
Apple pie, baseball, and Shell gasoline,
And if you don't love her fuck you.

Beloved by all from Tikrit to Beijing,
If the world were a school we'd be homecoming king.
Worshiped by France and by North Vietnam,
Afghanistan thinks we're the bomb.

Oh, this is a song for America,
Home of the red, white, and blue.
Land of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean,
Apple pie, baseball, and Shell gasoline,
SUVs, handguns, and US magazine,
And if you don't love her, fuck you.

Our human rights record is something of note:
We freed all our slaves and gave women the vote.
Everyone's equal forever, always,
Unless you're one of them gays.

Oh, this is a song for America,
Home of the red, white, and blue.
Land of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean,
Apple pie, baseball, and Shell gasoline,
SUVs, handguns, and US magazine,
Low-carb diets and fast food cuisine,
And if you don't love her fuck you.

To all war-torn nations, to those in turmoil,
We'll help you kill despots, we'll help you drill oil,
And if you don't want our help, that's ok
We're coming in anyway.

Oh, this is a song for America,
Home of the red, white, and blue.
Land of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean,
Apple pie, baseball, and Shell gasoline,
SUVs, handguns, and US magazine,
And if you don't love her, fuck you.
Crack cocaine, Abu Ghraib, and nicotine,
Swindling CEOs getting off clean,
Housewives all hopped up on amphetamine,
Nipples get rated NC-17,
FEMA and levies and Hurr'cane Katrine
George Bush's great rolling war machine.
I think we're in trouble, don't you?

It might seem I don't think our country's so great,
But intolerance, bigotry, greed's what I hate.
Most folks are honest and decent and true,
Peaceful, compassionate, good through and through.
That's what it means to be red, white, and blue,
And if you don't think so fuck you,
If you don't think so fuck you.

Song O' Teh Week

Here at SFTSM, we are all about bringing you, the readers, what you want. This is a blog, so the first and basic rule is MORE BLOG POSTS. So, in an effort to give you what you want, I am starting a weekly post thing. On Thursdays it's the Cute Kid Pic, and on Mondays, we'll have the Song O' Teh Week. Get your work week started off right, yanno?

This week's song is called Dracula, by a band called Iced Earth. The song and many others like it make up an album called "Horror Show". I've written about the band and their many albums before.

I hope you enjoy the song, complete with lyrics. For more information on the band, the music, and the meaning behind the music, visit their website, IcedEarth.com.

Another school fight

From the land of sad news, I bring you....

South Carolina student dead, officer hurt after fight at school

An altercation between a South Carolina high school student and a school resource officer ended tragically Friday with the student dead of a gunshot wound and the officer hospitalized after being stabbed.
Police officers in body armor vests are on the scene after violence at a school near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The incident took place about 8:25 a.m., and both the officer and the 16-year-old student were transported to Conway Medical Center, where the student died, said Sgt. Robert Kegler of the Horry County Police Department.

No information is available at this time as to why the student fought the officer or exactly what happened. But it seems as if the student went to the officer's office with the intent of starting some sort of drama.

It's sad that high school students are so full of rage in today's society with no real outlet. They feel oppressed, shunned, outcast, what have you, and with no way to vent these frustrations, they turn violent in the worst ways.

Was it worth it? No. It never is. Did it happen anyway? Sadly, yes.

Cute Kid Of The Week

Okay, here at SFTSM, we're going to start a new weekly tradition. Let's jump on the internet band wagon, shall we?

Every week (Don't know which day of the week yet, but we're starting out on Thursday. Who knows, I may even keep doing it every Thursday. I mean, Marko has the Monday Search Term Safari, and that crazy bald fucker has both gun pr0n and a car list he puts out every Friday. So, hey, what could it hurt?

Besides, if I post nothing else during the week, it'll at least SOME of you who faithfully check my blog something to see/read/etc. I know, I really need to get back on the ball about posting. I promise, I will. Swear. Pinky swear. Just... stop looking at me like that, will ya? Christ...

But okay. The Cute Kid of the Week picture! Maybe two or three, depending on my mood.

And of course, because you would expect no less of me, they're only going to be pictures of *my* cute kid. I could care less about everyone else's spawn. Who cares about them? *grins*

(I'm just kidding please don't kill me fellow parent bloggers, I'm just being Snarky)

Okay. So. Cute Kid Pic of the Week!

Now, how can you say no to something THAT DAMNED PRECIOUS? Srsly, ya'll.

Thanks for tuning in. More next week!

And, of course, more REAL blog posts soon. Promise. I'm stewing one now about the big debate of open carry.

See ya soon.

Don't Tread On Me!

I vote this becomes the new national anthem for the United States of America. Srsly, ya'll.

Sorry that it's not an actual *video* but you make do with what you have.

Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail
Once you provoke her, rattling of her tail
Never begins it, never, but once engaged
Never surrenders, showing the fangs of rage

Don't tread on me

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it
Settle the score
Touch me again for the words that you will hear evermore

Don't tread on me

Love it or live it, she with the deadly bite
Quick is the blue tongue, forked as the lighting strike
Shining with brightness, always on surveillance
The eyes, they never close, emblem of vigilance

Don't tread on me

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it
Settle the score
Touch me again for the words that you will hear evermore

Don't tread on me

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war

Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail
Once you provoke her, rattling
of her tail

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it
Settle the score
Touch me again for the words that you will hear evermore

Don't tread on me

Don't you agree?
